Domestic Tourism in Uganda between 2021 and 2022

Introduction:

Uganda, known as the “Pearl of Africa,” has noticed a remarkable surge in domestic tourism between 2021 and 2022. The number of Ugandans visiting key tourist attractions across the country including UWEC, National Parks and Museums rose from 281,206 in 2021 to 890,802 in 2022, an increase of 609,596 visitors. Likewise, the international tourist arrivals from key source markets like the U.S, Europe & China grew from 34,489 in 2021 to 51,285 in 2022, an increase of 16,796 visitors. This shows growth in both the foreign and domestic tourism components. The contribution of tourism to GDP increased from 2.5% in the FY 2020/2021 to 6.7% in FY2021/2022.

With travel rules and international changes caused by the out break. Many Ugandans turned their attention to searching the hidden gems within their own country. This article delves into the booming trend of local tourism in Uganda. Where by it mentions the destinations, attractions, and experiences that attract local visitors during this period.

During this time, Ugandans got to know about the beauty of their home country. By naming hidden treasures and the richness of their own culture. From the picturesque landscapes of national parks to the ancient sites and vibrant cities. Uganda showcased its diverse offerings to the local traveler.

National Parks and Wildlife Encounters:

Uganda’s national parks became the focal point for local tourists seeking inspiring natural encounters. Destinations like Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest attracted visitors with their remarkable wildlife. Which includes majestic elephants, tree-climbing lions, and the critically endangered mountain gorillas.
