Ugandan Tour Operator Canine Safaris Ltd Attends SEED Starter Workshop.
Canine Safaris Ltd, a Ugandan–based tour operator and member of Young Uganda Tour Operators Association, recently attended the SEED Starter Workshop in Mbarara, A three day event held on 25th-27th April 2023 at Oxford Hotel aimed to promote entrepreneurship for sustainable development.
The Canine Safaris team was delighted to take part in the workshop having emerged as a successful applicant in the Starter Program with a project that aims at sustainable tourism development. The workshop provided invaluable insights into the potential of the enterprise for social and economic development.
The event was organised by SEED, a global partnership for action on sustainable development and the green economy founded by the United Nations Environment program, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) at the 2002 World Summit on sustainable Development in Johannesburg.
Workshop Learning Experience
During the workshop, the Canine Safaris team had the opportunity to learn from industry experts and facilitators, Simon and Peter, and participate in interactive activities. They gained in-depth insights into the importance of entrepreneurship for sustainable development and implementing their tourism tech-enabled project aimed at strengthening tour and travel companies.
Key Discussions
The Canine Safaris team was particularly excited to join the discussions on the essential role that entrepreneurs play in driving local economic development and particularly on how to leverage technology in the tourism industry. There was a great emphasis on the importance of collaboration, technology, and the value of sharing ideas between businesses.
Practical Advice
The Canine Safaris team also benefited from the practical advice provided during the workshop, such as the importance of identifying key target markets, empathy mapping, pitching, impact value chains, problem-solving, and creating a business plan to ensure success.
Online Presence and Supplier Relationships
They also gained insights into the importance of creating a strong online presence, including the use of social media, as well as the importance of developing relationships with suppliers.
